Shiatsu is a form of manual therapy originating in Japan. This treatment is characterized by, soothing and gentle pressure, which is applied along the energy channels (Meridians) and Acupressure points on the body. In most cases the therapist apply pressure by using the thumb and palm of the hands as well as gentle rocking and stretching techniques.
The aim is to relax the nervous system and improve one’s health by stimulating the body’s natural powers of recuperation. It is especially effective in treating tendon-muscular complaints such as, back and neck pain, as well as removing the fatigue and anxiety caused by the daily stresses and tensions of life. People of all ages find it beneficial, including children, the elderly and even pregnant women.
Treatment takes about an hour, it is done with clothes on and covers the whole of the body. In order to get a full benefit from the treatment, the client is advised to wear light clothes and eat only a light meal prior to the treatment.
